I love when a couple tells me that they’d like to do a first-look photo session before their ceremony.
Wedding days are always tightly scheduled. First look sessions allow us all to have a bit more time to take formal photos while everyone is fresh.
Aneliya and Kevin requested a first look before their ceremony. Since theirs was a morning wedding, this allowed us to take advantage of the amazing pre-noon sunlight!
I knew that we didn’t want to position the bride and groom facing the sun -- that tends to lead to a harsh light that’s not so appealing in photos. But that wasn’t an issue -- their August wedding day was wonderfully overcast, which created an artistic aura for the images. Whereas morning sun can sometimes present a lighting challenge -- thanks to the weather, I was able to use the magical gray light to my advantage here.
It didn’t hurt that our backdrop was the world-class New York City skyline from Liberty State Park.
This wedding was truly magical!
What an exquisite wedding! I always love to learn about new cultures and traditions in my line of work. The more varied and unique the wedding customs I experience are, the happier I am. This occasion made me very happy!
Kevin is from Venezuela and Aneliya is from Bulgaria. Some unique traditions you can see in these images include: traditional Bulgarian circle dances, throwing candy, kicking a bucket of water, and breaking bread over someone’s head! Let me tell you, these moments were just as fun as they look in the photographs. I had so much fun shooting the revelry!
Maritime Parc is a beautiful location for chic city weddings. It’s a versatile venue with expansive interiors to match the stunning skyline. Check out those iconic views: the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island, just to name a few. Hurricane Sandy caused extensive damage to the historic Central Railroad Terminal building by the river, and that area is still off limits unfortunately. Nevertheless, there are still many fabulous interior and exterior spaces to capture that perfect shot.
I’m an approved vendor at Maritime Parc, which always helps things run a bit smoother. I’m highly familiar with the venue, the staff, and the area, and I love to see brides select this lovely spot for their weddings.
I just love how classic Aneliya, Kevin, and their entourage look in those grand, gorgeous event spaces! Aneliya and Kevin chose an event space called “The Aviary” for their wedding. The result? Classic, timeless photos that emphasize the grandeur of the city while also highlighting the magnetic radiance of this couple.
Some people think morning weddings are more low-energy.
Those people should have seen Aneliya and Kevin, and their amazing, fun-loving crowd! Their friends and family brought such passion and excitement to the dance floor. It was electric!
Aneliya and Kevin aren’t afraid of color! That’s a good thing -- I just love how those purples pop against the neutral slate of the Hudson River and Maritime Parc’s modern interiors. These two did a fabulous job of coordinating all the little details of decor, and the result is a wonderfully cohesive whole. Perfect match of purple roses in the bridesmaids’ bouquets and those sharp purple bowties on the groomsmen. Snazzy!
Congratulations, Aneliya & Kevin!
